ם Target Now Judges Your Photography

Fearing lawsuits over copyright infringement, Yahoo/Target’s photo service is refusing to print photos that appear “too professional”.

This is not only a pain for customers, but it also asks a Target Photo Center employee to judge every photo that passes through as either “professional” or “amateur,” a pretty heavy burden to put on a teenager making minimum wage.

If this is their policy, there should at least be some form to sign to release Target from liability so that customer’s can get their prints, but alas:

I asked her if there was any paperwork I could fill out, swearing authorship of the pictures. She reiterated, ‘I’m sorry.’ Then she wandered off.

Well, at least they handled it gracefully.

ם Stock Photography Celebrities

Ever wonder who that person is in any given advertisement? Chances are, to save money, stock photos are used instead of shooting original material. But what happens when multiple companies license the same photos? You get the “Everywhere Girl”. When two competitors (in this case, Dell and Gateway) run what amounts to the same exact ad, then you know that someone dropped the ball during their research phase.

One would think such gaffes would be a rarity, but that’s hardly the case. Meet “Alicia”, a stock photography celebrity who has three entire pages dedicated to the ads featuring her.

But do these stock photo A-listers have the versatility to make it big? Everywhere Girl found her niche pushing technology and gadgets; Alicia has the internet dating market cornered. Where’s the range? Where’s the variety?

I bring you the first big star of the stock photo world: Blonde Pigtail Girl, who can be found not only peddling O’Reilly Design Patterns, but also Vagisil. Now that’s a girl that truly knows how to break free of typecasting.
