ם My Future

It’s that time of the semester again: class registration time!
Naturally, I had to do some credit-counting to figure out the remainder of my college career. And what did I realize? I’m graduating in 2 semesters (one semester early) with a major and two minors (Mathematics, Pre-Business Studies, and Computer Science, respectively).
And the kicker: I’ll be graduating roughly ten days after my 21st birthday. That is, needless to say, terrifying.
Eesh.
On a lighter note, here’s a video of a guy juggling inside an eight foot tall inverted plastic cone. I like to call it “Bohr’s Model of a Juggler.” (Hooray atomic physics jokes!)
ם Pop-cornfused!

Deb and I were hanging out, and she wanted to make some popcorn. I wasn’t interested, so she opted for one of those tiny, mini-bags. Clever idea, you popcorn makers you.
Because it’s a tiny bag, she wasn’t sure about how long to microwave it for optimum poppage. Naturally, she checked out the directions. But something just wasn’t right…

A confusing bag of popcorn.
See the problem? Go ahead and read it again if you have to.
No dice? Okay, here’s a conveniently highlighted version:

This side up/down.
The universe then imploded.
(Please excuse my horrible play on words in the title. Popcornfused. Popcorn and confused. Get it? Yeah, the concept was better than the execution.)
ם Pumpkin Carving
Posted on November 1, 2006 at 12:03 am
The other night, my friend Jason threw a pumpkin carving party. I’ll be the first to admit that I’m not really a Halloween person. Even when I was a kid, I never really liked it. Still don’t. But I sure do love being crafty, so pumpkin carving has always been the shining star of an otherwise lackluster holiday for me.
What better way to honor Jason at his own party, I thought, than to carve a pumpkin of Jason?
So Deb and I went to the Union Square farmer’s market, and she bought a hefty pumpkin ($4! What a steal!)
(A brief digression: while at Union Square, we went to the infamous 14th St. Trader Joe’s. We did some shopping, and it’s as good as any Trader Joe’s, and decently priced. But then we caught a view of the line, which wrapped the entire way around the store, weaving in and out of aisles. Trader Joe’s is good, but it’s not that good. I’ll just keep grocery shopping in the projects. It’s cheaper and there are shorter lines.)
Here’s the pumpkin (with a nice shot of my living room ceiling in the background):

A pumpkin.
And here’s Jason:

…a little bit of sketching:

Sketching.
And the plan starts coming together!

Jason, in stencil form.
So, with stencil and pumpkin in hand, we headed to the party. There was newspaper laid out on the ground, Jason’s famous Witch’s BrĂ¼e simmering on the stove, and everyone was carving away. Deb took over the making of some pumpkin seeds, and they sure were delicious.

A selection of everyone’s lovely pumpkins.
After a few hours of carving (and a little bit of an emergency involving a nose falling off), the Jason-o’-Lantern was complete:

The Jason-o’-Lantern!
I won first prize.
Happy Halloween!
